The Audubon Everglades Photography Group (AEPG) meetings are on the SECOND Thursday of each month. Calendar entries are updated to reflect the upcoming events. Any subsequent changes will be posted on this calendar and announced to members by email. As programs are held and recorded, videos are linked to the calendar program date in case members missed the meeting or want to review in more detail.
This section contains the list of all scheduled AEPG events: programs, critique sessions, field trips, workshops, and photo shares.
Unless indicated otherwise, all programs, critique sessions, workshops, and photo share sessions will be held remotely using ZOOM. Members may log onto the ZOOM session from 6:45pm through 7:00pm for “social time” before the program begins. Field trips will be held when opportunities are identified.

Presenter: Margi Haas (Video)
An avid birder, Margi Haas has found herself uniquely situated to closely observe Swallow-tailed kites during their six-month annual visits to central Florida. These black and white forked-tail hawks are perhaps the most beautiful high-flying birds in North America IF you are lucky enough to see them! Through photographs and videos, she will show us rare footage of nesting and fledgling kites as well as adults soaring over head and roosting communally in preparation for their migratory journeys in South America. In addition, she will share with us what she has learned about their behaviors over the years.

Leader: Joel Such (Video)
If you are a wildlife photographer, chances are that you care about the wild subjects you photograph and want to see them thrive in their natural environment. In this workshop, we will explore how your photographs can help protect species and their habitats by increasing environmental awareness, promoting conservation initiatives, documenting conservation efforts, and inspiring others to join the tide to protect biodiversity. We will cover topics such as capturing photos that tell a story and evoke emotion, crafting meaningful social media captions with a conservation message, documenting a conservation project, and creating a conservation photography project of your own that is both achievable and has the potential of making a positive impact. Photographers play a crucial role in conservation efforts worldwide, and our natural world is counting on more photographers to channel their energy and talent towards making a difference in the world of conservation.

Presenter: Don Hamilton, Jr. (video)
We are privileged to have Don Hamilton Jr. as our April speaker. He is an award winning, internationally recognized photographer, a native Floridian living in Boca Raton, and is a passionate wildlife and nature photographer.
Mr. “Get The Shot” Hamilton is best known for his natural ability to create a dynamic learning environment where both the beginner and the advanced photographer can learn. Capturing an image in the field is just the beginning. To Don, “One’s photographic journey is about the process, the experience and the derived personal satisfaction.”
It really is all about you. If what you captured and how you captured it mean something to you, it’s important. Tell your story.

Leader: Nancy Freeman (this program was not recorded)
AE Members -- Have you taken any Nature photos that tell a story, or hold a special memory, or reveal an environmental concern? Start looking through your camera memory cards, digital photo files, and cellphone gallery to find no more than 3 of your nature photos that you would like to share with your AE friends.
Your photos must be taken by you and submitted into our software, PhotoContestPro, by no later than May 12. If sequence is important, please put the sequence number (1, 2, etc.) as the first item in your photo title., Then on May 16, 7pm, share your images and the story that only you know. Your fellow AE friends are looking forward to it.
Please Note:
We use software called PhotoContestPro not for judging photo contests, but for collecting and organizing photos for the Zoom Session. It’s easy and there is no fee to participate.
For any AE members wanting to share photos but not already in the Photo Group, or in the Group but not yet with an account in PhotoContestPro, please register by no later than May 4 by sending an email stating your first and last name, email address, and phone number (inside the body of the email) to: aepgregister@auduboneverglades.org. PhotoContestPro access uses individual email addresses as UserIDs, so “Household” AE memberships will need to provide an email address for each member submitting photos, or split ownership of the maximum 3 photos being shared.

Presenter: Simon Tolzman (Video)
Good photos do not need to be taken with a $10,000 camera setup. Disposable cameras can take some of the most artistic photos possible, at the same level of intricacy as a DSLR. Using a point and shoot is my happy medium, and the capabilities never cease to impress. Salamanders posed on logs, flowers growing on the forest floor, birds perched in trees, soaring on thermals, or foraging on the ground are all common sights through my viewfinder. The secrets to micro to macro point-and-shoot photography are waiting to be shared.
